LOVER jewelry is handmade in Venice, CA by Catrina Gregory, and is cast in solid brass from melted bullet shells.
As a child, Catrina’s favorite place was her grandfather’s shop. A skilled craftsman, and WWII veteran, her grandfather often made clever things from discarded materials. The salt-and-pepper shakers he crafted from large-caliber WWII bullet shells made a big impression on Catrina as a child – they perfectly captured the humor and whimsy of the gentle man she called “Brampa.”
Early in 2012, by chance, a friend gave Catrina a box of spent bullet shells. The coloring and weathered patina of the discarded brass immediately captivated her – and remembering her Brampa’s shakers, she knew she’d found the perfect material for her new line. She also felt transforming bullets into tokens of peace and beauty was a meaningful symbolic act. And in the end, she named the line after what her grandfather was to everyone he met, and what she most wants to be in life: One who loves… a LOVER.
A portion of proceeds from LOVER sales will be donated to The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund in honor of Catrina’s grandfather, Kenneth N. Rhodes.
